It was heartbreaking when The Palace closed it doors in 1999. The only cinema for miles around, it was the hub of teen society. Fortunately, it's recently found a new lease of life, copying the chameleon and assuming many guises: cinema (yay!), brasserie, concert hall, comedy club, conference venue, dance hall and more. Worth checking out if you're in the area.
