20 years in the future, an outbreak of dog flu in Japan causes Mayor Kobayashi to banish all dogs to a rubbish dump called Trash Island (the ‘Isle Of Dogs’) to fend for themselves.
Over time, the dogs develop a reluctant hierarchy led by Chief (Bryan Cranston), who guides a host of offbeat breeds, including Rex (Edward Norton), Boss (Bill Murray), Duke (Jeff Goldblum), and King (Bob Balaban).
The dogs rule their garbage sanctuary, isolated from the wider community, until one day a boy named Atari (Koyu Rankin) turns up looking for his dog, Spots (Liev Schreiber).
Fed up of being separated from humanity, the dogs welcome Atari and work with him to locate Spots, and protect Atari from the Japanese authorities who have come to bring him back home. Together the dogs and Atari embark on an epic adventure that will decide the fate and future of the country.
A stop-motion animation from the incomparable mind of Wes Anderson (The Fantastic Mister Fox, The Grand Budapest Hotel) who has written, directed and produced this film.
