This newly-released film is about the final agonising hours before D-Day in 1944.
The Hat Festival takes place on the weekend of 1-3 September. It’s a great, Bridport event, attracting hat wearers from all over the country and beyond. It raises money for Brain Tumour Research and The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.
Churchill is one of the icons of the 20th century. His hunched shoulders, unflinching stare, jutting jaw cigar, victory sign and, of course, his Homberg hat make him instantly recognisable.
The Palace is bringing together this image with that hat, and the fact that, in 1944, everyone wore hats, as the hook on which to hang this fundraising event.
Heads will definitely be turning at the Palace on the night of the film, as bottles of champagne will be given out to the man and woman wearing the best 1940s hat. Anyone turning up to watch the film without a hat will be asked for a fundraising donation of £2. There will also be a fundraising raffle and fun quizzes.
