Anja Graefe has a deep earthy voice that marries well with the blues-based songs she writes and performs. The music evokes a variety of moods, from bouncy to contemplative.

Almost all the songs she performs are self-penned, with excellent melodies and often very emotive lyrics in English, Italian and German that are inspired by the Burlesque, Jazz improvisation and Southern European rhythms.

The East Germany born singer fled the country at age 15 with her parents, went to America to train horses, sailed the Mediterranean sea, in between getting a university degree in American studies and art history.

She spent 11 years in Italy where she seriously turned to music. She studied several years with the renowned Tuscan Jazz vocalist Titta Nesti.

On German national Radio Bayern 2 she was called “An artist to keep an eye on“.

BBC Introducing´s Sarah Gosling called her “an eclectic delight of the kind we don´t get from anyone else. One of our most distinctive artists.”
