A film which world premiered at the Electric Palace has triumphed at the Oscars!

The Young Victoria, written by Electric Palace Patron Julian Fellowes, premiered at the Electric Palace last year in aid of the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust appeal. The film won an Oscar for Best Costume Design at the prestigious ceremony held in Hollywood on Sunday night.

Costume designer Sandy Powell received the Oscar for her work dressing the stars including Dorset actress Harriet Walter and Emily Blunt., who starred at Victoria in the period film which focussed on the terbulent years of the young Victoria's life,

The premiere at the Electric Palace was hosted by Julian Fellowes, who as well as being Patron to the Palace is also vice president of the Hospice. The evening was delightful and attracted a full house audience of 400, with proceeds from the premiere amounting to £9,500 in aid of the local Hospicecare Trust.
