ELANA JAMES, Fiddle & Vocals
WHIT SMITH, Guitar & Vocals
JAKE ERWIN, Bass & Vocals

The imperturbably swinging fiddler and stylish singer Elana James has been keeping impressive company, touring with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, but she's at her most engaging in the Hot Club of Cowtown, an Austin, Texas, string trio featuring guitarist-vocalist Whit Smith and bassist-vocalist Jake Erwin. Whether tearing through standards or playing buoyant originals, the Hot Club combines the ebullient rhythmic bounce of Django Reinhardt with the cool Texas twang of Bob Wills.

“The world’s most engaging Western Swing band – their shows are all about energy and joie de vivre – the devil-may-care style that combined the rigour of jazz with the down-home sentiment of country and earthiness of the blues – it is as a live act that they have made their greatest impact.”

“The new album, ‘Wishful Thinking’, is one of their most polished efforts so far, but to catch the Hot Club at full temperature, you really need to see the group in the flesh.” The Sunday Times 12/07/09

“Ten Best Gigs - The Texas Trio stand at that crossroads where country meets jazz and chases the blues away!” The Independent 02/05/09

"Hot Club have spirit, originality and skill that would surely have impressed Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.” The Guardian 01/05/09

Best known as singer, toaster and composer with The Specials, and as one of the founding members of Fun Boy Three, Neville Staple is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice.

Catch his show these days, and you'll get a mix of old favourites from The Specials/Fun Boy Three back catalogue plus choice solo releases.

Neville's first involvement with The Specials was when they were still called The Coventry Automatics. He initially joined as their roadie but at a gig supporting The Clash, Neville took to the stage and never looked back. For a while, The Clash’s manager Bernard Rhodes managed The Specials. Neville used to toast of Bernie, "Bernie Rhodes knows. Don't argue" at the beginning of the Specials hit single "Gangsters".

When The Specials split up, Neville departed with Terry Hall and Lynval Golding, to form Fun Boy Three. They had a string of chart hits, some in collaboration with the all-female trio Bananarama.

The band will be playing in some of the towns and cities they played at when they were first starting out and others that they have never played before!

Fiddle player Jon Sevink had this to say “We really enjoyed playing some smaller venues in Europe last year and thought that it would be fun do something different in our own country - a return to our roots”.

Formed in 1966 by Adge Cutler, the Bard of Avonmouth, this bunch of haystack-headed, cider-soaked and dung-booted, not-quite-so-young Avonside lads play good-time traditional Zummerzet Scrumpy 'n' Western music. The band has had considerable commercial success from their 1967 anthem Drink Up Thy Zider to the heights of the chart-topping Combine Harvester in 1976. Big in Nempnett Thrubwell, these guys are huge across the whole county!
