Jess Upton is Dorset’s best keep musical secret. She first sang with the stunning “Jess Upton Soul Band” at the age of 17 and has captivated audiences and received great plaudits from those lucky enough to hear her sing, ever since.

The Jess Upton Soul Band is one of the most respected bands in Dorset.  With their reputation for excellent musicianship, authenticity and dedication to real soul music, they are without doubt one of the most popular soul bands in Dorset.

The Jess Upton Soul Band reformed in 2008 to play their first gig after a ten year break at the Electric Palace.  Their reunion was greeted by a full house audience who danced the night away to hits such as ‘Respect’ and ‘Chain of Fools’.

Jess Upton’s vocal range is without competition in the West Country and she reigns supreme as Dorset’s ‘Queen of Soul’.  Jess’s natural talent and onstage professionalism teamed with her fabulously talented and charismatic band never fails to deliver and you will be guaranteed to stay on the dance floor all night.

The Jess Upton Soul Band is Jess Upton on lead vocals, Sammy Hurden on keyboard and backing vocals, Clive Ashley on tenor saxophone, Julie Trevett on alto saxophone, Mat Barge on trombone, Terry Cottam on guitar, Chris Lonergan on bass guitar, Dave Kenderdine on drums and Steve Mutter on congas and percussion.

With such a warm welcome in 2008, the Soul Band played the following year in 2009 to yet another spectacular sell out evening of dancing. Now, for the third year in a row, the Soul Band return to the Palace for what is now an annual event - their only gig of the year and the best way to start the christmas cheer!
